Buwan ng Wika

The languages all around the world are an important part of the cultures of every country. Our own language, Filipino, shows how rich our country's culture is, but the case is that we Filipinos are slowly forgetting it and are preferring to speak other languages. Buwan ng Wika is a celebration held every month of August to make us remember the importance of our own language. To commemorate this event, our school has held separate contests for all the sections in the elementary, junior high school and senior high school departments.

Before the event took place, all classes in the junior and senior high school departments already started practicing and preparing for their performances, while some elementary students were preparing for their speeches. When the day arrived, the students practiced for one last time before stepping on the stage. The event started with the meaningful speeches of the chosen students in the elementary department. Following that, the classes in the junior and senior high school departments showed each of their well-prepared performances depicting stories about the Philippine Gods. The costumes and performances of every class were very eye catching, which was one of the reasons why the students and judges watching looked so enthralled. After a short performance by some chosen students, the well deserving winners were announced by the school’s beloved principal. The following are the list of winners for each department.

High School Department

Champion – Grade 10 Tesla

1st Runner Up – Grade 10 Dalton

2nd Runner Up – Grade 8 Pascal

Senior High School Department

Champion – Grade 11 Orion

1st Runner Up – Grade 12 – Aquila

2nd Runner Up – Grade 11 Andromeda

We must never forget about our own country’s language and must never be ashamed towards our mother tongue. This is the lesson that the celebration of the Buwan ng Wika wants to show us. Speaking our own language is already one of the ways of showing our patriotism and love towards our country. Just like what our national hero once famously said:

“Ang hindi magmahal sa sariling wika, daig pa ang hayop at malansang isda.”
