Lend me your ears for nutrition!

Did you ever wonder why your parents always ask you to eat vegetables? As much as we all hate to admit it, eating too much or too little of some food groups is not always good for our bodies. Sure, food is a common thing in our lives and sometimes we just can't stop eating them. Well, I am here to tell everyone that we must eat nutritious meals, be physically active, and be properly informed about nutrition with the help of this year’s Nutrition Month to have a healthy lifestyle. Nutrition Month is an event that will help us become more educationally aware of proper nutrition and healthy lifestyle.

In Future Generation Philippine International School, our school nurse, Joseph P. Artap, gave us a brief discussion about nutrition and how eating nutritious meals can help our bodies. He also showed us a stunning video on how food fights off bacteria. The students also prepared a presentation featuring the benefits of a having healthy diet and being physically active.

Every class in the elementary department, from grades 4 to 6, prepared a dance performance featuring nutrition and physical activities that everyone needs to have a healthy lifestyle. With their stunning performances and ravishing costumes, they astonished the audience. With their strong interpretation of nutrition using their dance moves, each class delivered its message well. There might have been mishaps here and there, but fortunately, the program still went on smoothly. The students performed with their utmost efforts which created their astonishing performances. Out of all the glorious dance presentations, there are three groups of performers that stood out winning: 5-Zirconium garnering 3rd place, 6-Zinc garnering 2nd place, and 6-Sodium being proclaimed the champions of the nutrition dance competition.

Meanwhile, the classes of the junior high school department, from grades 7 to 10, showed their own way of celebrating nutrition month through making infographics. Each infographic showed information about how having proper nutrition and being physically active can benefit our bodies. With their chosen representatives from each class, they presented their infographics creatively. With their creativity and wisdom, their outputs provided us with sufficient information about nutrition in a way that is understandable and pleasing to the eyes. Out of all the outstanding outputs, the three that stood out winning were 10-Tesla in 3rd place, 9-Descartes in 2nd place, and 8-Pascal as the champions.

After the stunning and wonderful presentations and awarding ceremony, it was finally time for the event to end. The students were asked to stand up and dance as the Grade 11-Orion students led the dance on stage. Everyone happily and energetically danced to the song as the event came to a close. With Sir Mark giving a speech to end the event, the students were then asked to go back to their respective classrooms.

With the event done, I believe it is time for us to end this article with a few words. Nutrition is truly important in our lives. By having the needed knowledge about proper nutrition and applying it to our daily lives, we can become healthy. Choose what you eat wisely and be physically active to have a healthy lifestyle. With that said and done, to end this article, here is a quote by Hippocrates:

"Let food be thy medicine, and let medicine be thy food."
